About

Open ReMap is a worldwide geographic database dedicated to the renewable energy industry. Built in real-time with many worldwide and governmental data sets, Open ReMap is a global and harmonized database whose purpose is to give an overview of the renewable energy capacity in the world. Note that all the information such as locations and attributes is given by available public databases and do not reflect reality. The more public data sets will be enriched, the more information in Open ReMap will be complete and accurate.

Bioenergy, hydroelectricity, solar and wind sources

Open ReMap collects several databases of renewable energies including wind turbines, solar panels, bioenergy and hydroelectricity facilities. Each of these sources can be explored individually to view the installed power capacity.

Wind power statistics

More than 400 000 wind turbines are currently in the database, all statuses included (submitted, accepted, under construction, operating, decommissioned). Open ReMap estimates the wind power capacity to be 412 GW (reality was about 906 GW in 2023). More wind turbines statistics can be found here. For each country, more details are given such as the installed capacity, the number of projects and turbines and the manufacturer information (model, rotor, hub height, total height).

Open renewable databases

Many worldwide and governmental databases are currently used in Open ReMap. A description of each source can be found here. If you know other open data sets in other countries, please contact me so they can appear on Open ReMap.

Contributions - Supports

There are various manners to participate in the development of Open ReMap.

  • By mapping the renewable electricity production facilities in OpenStreetMap and OpenWindPowerMap.
  • By mapping your respective governmental database if you are concerned.
  • By reporting any kind of bugs or by suggesting new features.

Open ReMap access is free of charge. There are several solutions if you are interested in supporting the project. You can become a sustaining member or a donor, you can also ask for Open ReMap data exports (CSV or GPKG files).
